Adrak Wali Chai Recipe

Portions serving: 2 pax

Preparation time: 05 mins

Cooking time: 10 mins

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp tea leaves
  • 2 cloves (laung/lavang)
  • 2-inch piece of ginger (adrak)
  • 1 cardamom (elaichi)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • Saffron strands

Method:

1. Boiling Water and Adding Tea Leaves:

  • Start by boiling 1 cup of water in a saucepan or a tea kettle.
  • Once the water comes to a boil, add 2 tsp of tea leaves to the boiling water. The tea leaves will infuse the water with their flavor, creating the base of the tea.

2. Infusing with Spices:

  • Crush the cloves (laung/lavang) and add them to the boiling water with the tea leaves.
  • Peel a 2-inch piece of ginger (adrak) and crush it before adding it to the water. The ginger will add a subtle spiciness and warmth to the tea.
  • Add a cardamom (elaichi) pod to the water, giving the tea a delightful aroma and flavor.

3. Adding Milk and Boiling:

  • After adding the spices, pour 1 cup of milk into the saucepan or tea kettle with the water and tea leaves.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring occasionally to prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom.

4. Sweetening the Tea:

  • Once the tea has come to a boil, add 2 tbsp of sugar to the mixture. You can adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste preferences.

5. Adding Cardamom:

  • Crush a cardamom (elaichi) pod and add it to the boiling tea. Cardamom will add a delightful fragrance and a hint of sweetness to the tea.

6. Simmering the Tea:

  • Allow the tea to simmer for 1 to 2 minutes to ensure all the flavors are well infused.

7. Infusing with Saffron:

  • Take 2 strands of saffron and soak them in a cup of warm water. This will release the vibrant color and distinct aroma of saffron.
  • Once the saffron has infused the water, pour the saffron-infused water into the serving cups, giving the tea a beautiful saffron hue.

8. Serving the Chai:

  • Pour the prepared tea into the saffron-infused cups, filling them to the top.
  • For an elegant presentation, add a few saffron strands on top of each cup as a garnish.

9. Ready to Serve:

  • Your delicious and aromatic saffron-infused tea is now ready to be served and enjoyed.
