Ukadiche & Chocolate Modak Recipe

One of the most celebrated sweet dish mainly prepared at the time of Ganesh Chaturthi festival in the state of Maharastra is modak. Though originated in the city of Maharastra but modak now a days has taken its throne in almost every parts of India with its richness and simple making process. It is one of the inevitable sweet for #Ganeshpuja. Well, traditionally it is basically a dumpling which is made up of rice flour and mawa stuffing but today we are going to prepare it with a dash of twist in it. We will implement some nice delicious chocolate and hazelnut flavor in it to give modak an awesome fusion flavor of both westernized and Indian taste.

For Dough:
  • 1/2 cup water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 cup rice flour
For Filling:
  • 1 grated coconut/li>
  • 1/4 cup jaggery
  • pinch cardamom powder
  • 1/4 cup dedicated coconut
  • melted chocolate
Method:
  • For covering:
    • In a deep bowl, boil water with Ghee and Salt. Now add Rice Flour and mix it genitally until rice flour absorbs all the water.
    • Cover and rest for 10 minutes. Now transfer to a large bowl and start to knead the dough. Wet your hand to prevent from burning. Knead dough for until the dough turns soft.
    • Modak dough is ready. Wet your hand and knead if the dough seems dry.

  • For jaggery coconut filling:
    • Heat a pan, add the grated coconut, jaggery, cardimom powder and mix it well. Let it cook for few minutes. Once the stuffing is ready, keep aside.

  • For chocolate coconut filling:
    • In a bowl add dedicated Coconut, melted chocolate and mix it well. Our Chocolate stuffing is also ready.

  • For final preparation:
    • In a bowl add dedicated Coconut, melted chocolate and mix it well. Our Chocolate stuffing is also ready.
    • Adjust it in a mould and put a spoonful of the filling onto the dough and seal it.
    • Put the Modak in a steamer and let it steam them for 5 - 7 minutes.
    • Serve it with a nice pouring Ghee it.
